Lecturer Gone Wild

March 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

So we are having Spring Break. It’s a relief not to have to deal with the clamour of students. Although, over time it does become white noise and you can block it out (I’m from Bombay).
And that’s also why I have some extra time to feed the ever-increasing belly of The Great Ganesha.
Just FYI…

I’m Baaaacck!

January 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

The backdrop to our beautifully designed wedding reception at ‘Dhanush‘ in Navy Nagar. I got married for the second time in Bombay (to the same person).
Spending five weeks in India after an eight-year hiatus made me painfully aware of a neurological need to go to this place called home. Not going there for almost a [...]

It’s Good to be Home

November 28th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Not much seems to have changed in ten years. Bombay is still pulsating and I’m loving it. For all the hype about change, the city and its people have remained the same. Sure, there are a few more people, a few more buildings and a few more cars, but on the whole, it’s still my [...]

It’s been over eight years since I was last home. That’s almost a decade, and quite a tumultuous one at that. But I am headed over to the ol’ homefront tonight, and shall be blogging all about it. So stay tuned.

Locked in Seattle: A Photoessay

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

[Originally on Desicritics]
When I was in Seattle last week, the conference organizers were offering a cruise around the Seattle lakes and locks. I decided to check it out - take a breather from the conference chaos, and heave a sigh of relief after my talk.
At first, I thought “locks” was a mis-spelling of “lochs,” but [...]

Hip Replacement

November 9th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve got to apologize for the long silence. Lots of things are happening. We just moved, I was in Seattle giving a presentation at a conference, and we’re headed to India for a month in around ten days (haven’t been home in around ten years).
Anyway, just so you know - we’re hip now, because we [...]

The Finisher’s Medal, front and back
Well, folks, we did it! 26.2 miles! My second marathon, the wife’s first. Here’s our route, freshly uploaded from the GPS into Google Earth.

Temperatures were in the low 60s with fog, which made it perfect for me and perfect for running. In fact, it was so foggy, I couldn’t [...]

Marathoning This Sunday

July 27th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well folks, after all those months of training, it’s finally here. My second marathon.

Not sure if we’ll finish in the allotted time - there have been quite a few setbacks, especially in the last couple of months of training. Coincidentally, these months are also the most crucial. Nonetheless, we’ve registered, so it’s a go.
Come out [...]

Cold and Foggy

July 25th, 2007 · 6 Comments

San Francisco is cold and foggy again and I’m loving it.

We had quite a scare last week, when it was sunny and hot. I thought the heat would never end. I could actually walk outside in shorts for extended periods of time. We had to open all the windows in our apartment, it was so [...]

Old San Juan: Photoessay

July 18th, 2007 · 2 Comments

[Originally on Desicritics]
One section of the capital of Puerto Rico - San Juan - has cobbled streets, brightly colored buildings and beautiful sculptures. This part, called Old San Juan, shows the strong influence the Spanish had on Puerto Rico, and also has several historical monuments and forts. The old city is very small and very [...]
