Carrey's not doing it to promote himself. Also, everyone campaigned for Mandela's freedom and it was won, so why not for Aung San Suu Kyi? It's true. Most Americans DON'T know who she is, and if a celebrity does make it their cause du jour, at least ten more people will learn something. I see no harm in that. Or reason to be cynical.
