The BBC reports on Australian bowler Brett Lee and Asha Bhosle‘s collaborative venture – a catchy pop song called ‘You Are the One for Me’ which seems to be the Flavour of the Minute in India.
The fast bowler went into the studio between games in the Champions Trophy tournament in India in November.
Lee, who has a band in Australia, has reportedly turn downed roles in Bollywood films.
The song’s video, which features Lee playing guitar and singing to an Indian girl in an office, has become a hit on YouTube.
…
The song has climbed to number three on the music charts of popular FM station Radio City, which broadcasts in several Indian cities. [link]
This reminds me of the time Bhosle featured on a Boy George tune, back in the late ’80s-early ’90s. The song is called ‘Bow Down Mister‘ and it’s another catchy, kitschy pop number. It was written when he was going through a phase of getting in touch with his Krishna Consciousness. Clearly, he’s come a long way from that phase.
So what’s the fascination that desis have when white people sing about India or in Hindi? I guess everyone likes a little attention from the outside. And it is charming in a sort of way. Look at me, I’m getting all warm and fuzzy here (yes, that’s warm and fuzzy by my standards – is this the first time you’re at my blog?).
Look, it’s Friday afternoon (Pacific, at any rate). And you’re probably slacking off from work anyway. So take a look at the Brett Lee video:
And then take a look at the Boy George one. If you’re as old as I am, then it should send you down Memory Lane for a bit:
As we say here in the good old US of A: Have a great weekend.

Haha. Good one. Though there was something creepy about Asha flirting with Breet Lee. Glad they threw that other girl in but they could have given her at least one line somewhere.

greatgujju: that was disgusting. *shudder*…
sakshi: and speaking of disgusting, i’m really glad you brought that up. there’s some definitely some oedipal thing going on there. is she his teacher? if so, why is she flirting with him? what the hell is going on? and is the office girl ok with all of it?

Dude, that was wicked. Wicked bad. “Ha main toomara hoo, toomara hee rahunga.” Boy George was WAAAAY better.

That Boy George number definitely took me back in time! I have to admit, it is kind of catchy and I found myself humming the “bow down mister” bit in the shower this morning. It’s too bad that the last time he was in the news, he was picking up trash in New York.
